“Education is the most powerful tool for personal and community transformation.”
— Noble Sir Boniface Adindu Ejiogu (KSJI) —
Sir Boniface Adindu Ejiogu, fondly called Noble Sir Bonny, was born on March 5, 1939, in Obudi Agwa, Imo State. He began his educational journey with his primary schooling in Western Cameroon, where his brilliance and dedication quickly stood out. He went on to complete his secondary education at St. Paul’s Academy, Aba, before joining the Eastern Nigeria Civil Service.
Because of his outstanding performance and integrity in public service, he was sponsored by the East Central State Government on an in-service training program in the United Kingdom to study Accountancy. In June 1977, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and returned to Nigeria, continuing his career in the Imo State Civil Service, where he rose to become Director of Accounts in 1981.
Sir Bonny later held senior roles in the private sector, including Deputy General Manager (Finance) at Universal Insurance Company. His deep commitment to transparency and accountability earned him a reputation as a man of integrity who consistently shunned corruption and set a high standard of ethical leadership.
In public life, he made a lasting mark as Honourable Commissioner for Education (1999) in Imo State, where he introduced supervision systems that improved the quality of teaching and created jobs for unemployed teachers. He later served as Honourable Commissioner for Public Utilities and Rural Development (2002) and Honourable Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, and Tourism (2002), championing reforms and bringing tangible progress to rural communities. His contributions to education and governance were further recognized when he was appointed a member of the Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa (2005).
Beyond public service, Sir Bonny was a devoted philanthropist. He spearheaded and personally funded numerous developmental projects in Agwa and Oguta Local Government, including significant contributions to the building of his home parish, Christ the King Catholic Parish, Agwa, and the founding of Holy Cross Parish, Aladinma, Owerri. His generosity extended beyond his immediate family, as he consistently supported educational opportunities, mentorship, and community development projects across Imo State.
His dedication to service was recognized with several awards and honors, including:
- Member, British Institute of Management (1979)
- Justice of the Peace (2000)
- Gold Medal for Exemplary Service to Humanity by the Knights of St. John International (2009)
- Chieftaincy titles such as Omereoha I of Agwa and Enyioma I of Aro-Amuro, Okigwe
- Multiple certificates of honor and commendation from local, national, and international organizations.
Through it all, Sir Bonny lived a life of simplicity, faith, and service. A devoted Catholic and a Noble of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI), he embodied values of integrity, humility, and selflessness. He was also a loving family man, happily married to Hon. Maria Therese Ejiogu, with whom he raised five children and numerous grandchildren.
The Sir Boniface Ejiogu Foundation stands as a testament to his lifelong belief that education is the most powerful tool for personal and community transformation. His legacy continues to inspire generations of Agwa children to dream bigger and lead with excellence.
